HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA

Each 4th of July we celebrate Independence Day with a family barbecue of hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, baked beans, watermelon and of course apple pie. After spending the day eating, playing volley ball, swimming and telling stories, we head into town to watch the fireworks. It seems every year they become more spectacular. I think we lose site of why we celebrate this day.

I was wondering why our flag is red, white and blue. According to the Department of State, red stands for hardiness and courage, white is the symbol of purity and innocence, and blue is the color of vigilance, perseverance, and justice.

However you spend July 4th, hope you stop for a moment and give thanks to our men and women who are fighting for our country. Because of them we remain the land of the free and the home of the brave. May we all look upon the American Flag with the pride that it truly deserves. God Bless America.
