Happy New Year

Wishing everyone a happy and prosperous New Year!!!

This is the time of year when most people sit down and evaluate their lives and write resolutions to improve their lives for the new year. I only have one.......make NO New Year resolutions!! I guarantee I won't feel bad half way through the month when I think back to my resolutions and feel pain because I have once again failed to keep former resolutions. I personally feel new year resolutions only sets you up for failure.

A tradition my family has for New Year's Day is to cook a pot of brown (pinto) beans and have cabbage. The next day we have a root'n toot'n good time!!! ROFL!!! I use to boil my cabbage, but in the past several years I fry it. I melt a little butter in a large skillet, add the cut-up cabbage, a little water and sugar and let it simmer until the cabbage is tender.

Now that the holidays are over I hope to get back to blogging on a regular basis.

Hi Linda and Happy New Year to you, too.

I like your header wishing everyone a Happy New Year. I searched and searched for a more appropriate picture to wish everyone a Happy New Year, but everyone I tried to upload to my blogger header came out as being a tiny picture.

I, too, hope to get back to blogger on a more regular basis now that we have a new year ahead of us. I don't know about you, but I have just felt really tired since before Christmas and didn't feel like blogger. Maybe things will get better now.

Blessings to you and your family during the New Year.

Oh, Linda, do you happen to use Picasa to upload your pictures to use on your blog?

Hmm, I remember fried cabbage and potatoes that my mom made from leftovers. Yum.

Happy New Year Linda!!

I cooked cabbage and blackeye peas today. I will have to try frying the cabbage like you did, that sounds good.

I hope to get back to blogging more regularly now that the holidays are behind us for another year.

Hi Linda,

That's how I cook cabbage, except I add some cut up bacon bits (the ready cooked bacon) to it. Yummo!

I went to a nice lunch today where they served pork roast, cabbage, black-eyed peas, collard greens, and hog jawls. I refrained from the hog jowls, (yuck!) but had a double helping of collard greens, since they say eating them will ensure ones luck with money in the new year! LOL.

I hope your new year will be blessed with good health, much joy, and abundant prosperity, of course. Happy New Year, Linda!

Hugs,

Renie

Hi Linda, Your fried cabbage sounds good. I don't think I have ever eaten it that way. We had pork and sauerkraut.

I wish for you and your family a very Happy New Year and may all your casseroles turn out right!

Blessings,
Cheryl

Happy New Year.
Fried cabbage? I'll have to try that. I can't imagine what it tastes like.
We eat collards and Hoppin' John (peas, rice, etc.) for good luck.

Happy New Year to you, too, Linda. I agree with you about the resolutions. I will not resolve to do or not do this or that.....I will say I will try to do better.

I never make resolutions. But several years ago, a blogging friend talked about asking God to show her a "word" for the new year...just one word. Several bloggers did it, including me, and I LOVE what is revealed during this time of focus. I am going to once again ask God to reveal a new year focus word to me as I head into 2009. I'll blog about it soon.

Happy New Year and blessings to you!

:-) Susan

Hi Linda!
Happy New Year to you too!

What's with the cabbage and beans meal?
Its hard to imagine that that could be something to look forward to - but obviously, it is.

Is it a tradition where you live?
By the way, where DO you live?

Hope the year brings to you all you could have wished for.

Allie, I live in the US, specifically West Virginia. It is a tradition to eat lentils, which we choose pinto beans and cabbage on New Year's day. By eating cabbage we are to have money all year. And, it is something we look forward to once a year. Through blogging we learn traditions from all over the world.

Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks for the explanation Linda.

By the way, I loved the idea of asking the Lord for one word for the year and determined to do it.

Do you know, before I had "officially" asked Him, He gave it to me!!

HOw special is that - because He took me by surprise like that, I will not second guess myself about the reality of it.

So thanks - and I will visit Susan and tell her too.
