Temper Tantrums

Do you remember your first temper tantrum? I've been working on a scrapbook of my family and ran across the following picture which was taken in the mid 1930's. It's a picture of my Mom, Daddy, brother and sister. When I was maybe 3 or 4 years old I remember looking at this picture and asking "Where's me". Mom was unable to explain that I wasn't even a twinkle in Daddy's eye at that time. I didn't come along until 1947 when my brother was 15 and my sister 12. I remember being so mad that I folded and folded this picture. I didn't want it around since I wasn't in it. Boy was I a spoiled brat or what????? You would think I got my backside whipped, but I didn't.

Today when I ran across the photo I decided to try my hand at restoring the picture. I began my using my scratch removal tool with Paint Shop Pro.

That didn't look too bad, but I wondered if it would look better if I turned it into a black and white.

Then I started playing with the contrast, brightness, and other tools to try to make it more clear. I didn't like this at all.
Then I wondered how it would look with a hint of color.

This is all I'm going to do with it today. I'm brain dead! I think at least one of these will go into the scrapbook. Wasn't Mom and Daddy a handsome couple back then. It's strange seeing a picture of Daddy with hair. He was bald from as early back as I can remember. He did have one little swirl on top that I use to pin curl. He also let me paint his toe nails bright red. Yes, I was spoiled little girl.

That is so funny! You must have been really somethin'! AND painting your dad's toenails? The poor man! Haha!

Your parents were a find looking couple and your brother and sister were not too shabby!

I love old pictures. I have a tub full of them under the bed.

Hugs,
Cheryl

Let's face it linda..you were the baby and well babies just get a little bit spoiled sometimes!! I was the oldest and well that can be fun too. You did a great job on the photo. I like the one with a little bit of color. What software do you have anyway? Sandy

I loved seeing what you’ve done to this old photo with Photoshop. Having just learned this past summer about some of these tools, I’ve been thinking of pulling out some of MY old photos and having a go at a few. It DOES take a LONG time to do many of these things (especially while I’m learning the possibilities), but hopefully (with experience) things will get easier. How wonderful to have such a ‘tool’ to restore what you were too young to appreciate … way back when.
Hugs and blessings,

It's amazing if you look at the original and then immediately the final one - then you can see what a wonderful job you have done with it.

The painted toe nail story reminds me of a friend of ours who let his daughters paint his toenails, forgot all about it and then went to the mall in open-toe type of shoes! Halfway through shopping he happened to glance down and nearly had a hernia when he realised he was walking around with crimson toe nails!!

Hi Linda,

You did have a little temper tantrum, didn't you? And you must have been daddy's girl, back then.
Your Dad sounds like a great father, who enjoyed his kids, and let them paint his toe nails even.

I like the last version of the photo the best, with the hint of color.

Have a great weekend!

Hugs,

Renie

If you were spoiled, don't feel bad. I think every baby of a family is always spoiled. I know I was.

You did a good job on the photo.
